Oceania (1984) for flute, viola and harp
Oceania has two delightful movements entitled “Le Ciel” (the sky) and “La Mer” (the sea). Although originally written for flute, viola and harp, some performers have chosen to substitute piano for harp. Just as the sea reflects the sky, the second movement reflects the first, as a varied retrograde version of the first movement. It was premiered by Kate Waring – flute, Mary Gustafson -viola, and Christopher Arpin -piano, at the Wohnstift Augustinum in Bonn, Germany during the American Music Week in November 1984. This excerpt is played by the Meininger Trio. The complete recording is available on their CD “Rainforest”.
