Harmonious Relationships

Chamber Music –

Harmonious Relationships (2003) for flute, English horn, cello and piano

Commissioned by Catherine Carmack, for the Cambridge Music Conference in 2003

Composer’s Notes on “Harmonious Relationships”:

“After having enjoyed my premieres at the Cambridge Music Conference 2002, I was enthusiastic when Catherine and Elizabeth Carmack asked me to compose a new work for the 2003 conference “Music and the Word”. I wanted to depict a close connection and cohesiveness between the players, the friends who had commissioned me and the rhythmically challenging melodic lines, but at the same time to bring in elements of world music which could gel into a euphonious whole. In a time of global unrest, this was my way of bringing together strands of music influenced by various cultures into an idealistic setting. The piece symbolises my hope for harmonious relationships worldwide”.
